An architecture lesson from the Kardashians

That’s right — say what you like about the Kardashians, you can’t deny they occasionally talk about the big topics. And in a recent show, Kris Jenner was discussing architecture. Sort of.

In the episode of Keep Up With The Kardashians, Kris told daughter Khloe that she was reading a book about “Le Courvoisier”. You could hear architects the world over shouting in dismay at this incorrect reference to legendary architect, Le Corbusier. Check out the clip.

French-Swiss pioneer of Modernist architecture, Le Corbusier is responsible for some of the most iconic early 20th Century apartments and residences.

Clean lines, elegant spaces and floor to ceiling windows for plenty of natural light define his work — what became the lasting template for contemporary residential design.

His simple approach to architecture was often minimal and functional, such as in his design for Villa Savoye on the outskirts of Paris, or the apartment building that became affectionately known as the Corbusierhaus, Unité d’Habitation, Berlin (below).

Le Corbusier’s legacy is still felt today and remains an inspiration for contemporary architects and designers. His passion for creating better living environments also extended beyond the home and he pushed for improved living conditions through his work in urban planning on a large scale.

We think it’s great that The Kardashians are discussing architecture, though. The more people look into the work of one of the founders of contemporary home design, the better.
