5 clever ways to use mirrors in your home

Mirrors are not only useful for checking your appearance, but they’re also used for other functions in interior design. Check out these 5 different ways mirrors can enhance your home.

Space in the living room

If you hang a large mirror in your lounge room, it will trick the eye into thinking there’s more space than there is. It also has the additional benefit of brightening up the room, especially if you can manage to place the mirror adjacent to a window.

Ambience in the bathroom

Sometimes, the only difference between the luxurious bathrooms of a boutique hotel and yours is ambient lighting. Incorporate back-lighting in the mirror in your bathroom to create a soft glow for those times when all you want to do is take a long, hot shower or soak in the bathtub. This way, you won’t need to bother lighting candles to create a spa-like mood.

Focal point in the entryway

Choose a mirror with an ornate, textured frame to feature in your entryway. If you have a side table here, place a mirror of a similar width (it should never be wider) just above eye level height above the table. You can make even more of a statement by adding a vase or decorative bowl to really make this space stand out.

Greener balconies

Lay a rectangular mirror sideways against where your balcony meets the apartment wall or against the railing and place lush plants in varying heights in front of it. This creates the sense that there is more greenery than there actually is.

Activate empty wall space

You can use mirrors in lieu of artwork. It’s a unique way to decorate, and mirrors have the added bonus of serving a functional purpose. Groups of smaller mirrors create depth without the weight and formality which larger mirrors have.

Choose different frame shapes, colours and finish effects and team them with intermittent framed photographs to create a feature wall filled with your personal touch.
