Australian cities are not as sustainable as the large metropolises of London and Hong Kong, a new ranking has found. Commissioned by global design and engineering consultancy Arcadis, the inaugural Sustainable Cities Index ranks the sustainability of 50 of the world’s most prominent cities. It ranked Sydney at 11, while Melbourne was placed at 17.

Seven out of the top ten cities were in Europe, headed by Frankfurt, followed by London, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Rounding out the top ten cities was Seoul, Hong Kong and Singapore.
