How to warm up your apartment this winter

But the fact is a long, chilly winter is looming, and it’s just around the corner.

All modern, newly built apartment developments these days come with heating and cooling, but after a few years of wear and tear, cold air can creep in.

So, to make the early morning alarms and cold nights more bearable, we’ve compiled this list to keep you warm and toasty in your apartment if the heater just isn’t cutting it.

- Replace the sealing around the doors and windows

Windows are responsible for the biggest single source of radiant heat loss. But it doesn’t have to be that way. To stop warm air leaking, pick up a weather strip kit from Bunnings. The rubber is set in to the corners to create a compression seal, keeping the warmth in, and cold air out. The bottom of a door can also be a major culprit. But nothing a door sweep can’t easily fix. You’ll find this simple, and effective method will keep your apartment warm, and as a result, help you save on power bills.

- Close your blinds

Seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how effective shutting all blinds and curtains is to prevent warm air escaping. Before heading out to work, make sure to shut up shop, that way you won’t walk in to a freezing apartment at the end of the day.

- Lay out a rug

Many modern apartments these days come with timber floorboards. And while they may look fantastic, they can be cold to walk around on. Why not lay out a rug? There are so many to choose from these days. Rugs retain the warmth, while keeping your toes toasty.

 - Invest in an electric blanket

If you’ve never slept on an electric blanket before, you don’t know what you’re missing. Picture a hot water bottle cocooning your entire body. It’s heaven. And they’re relatively inexpensive these days. Head to the bedding section of any department store to pick one up as soon as possible, if not sooner.
