Lighting A Bathroom

People are spending more time in their bathrooms today than ever before and this has sparked a focus towards a room in the home that often gets a little neglected. Here we’ll walk through some of the important bathroom lighting trends you can adopt in new apartment bathroom spaces.

Make it a personal, relaxing space

Candlelight is a wonderful way to add ambience to any room in your home instantly and the bathroom is no exception. Rather than only lighting candles when you have guests over, invest in some real wax flameless candles with timers so you can enjoy that soft flicker of light every time you have a bath or shower without having to worry about the candle burning out. Flameless candles are an excellent alternative to traditional candles because they look like the real thing, yet don’t pose a potential fire hazard so you can place them around the bathtub or near a stack of towels.

Maximise natural lighting

Maximising the natural light in your bathroom is really important. Natural lighting helps to fight the build up of mould and so if you have a window in your bathroom, make sure that you keep it open when possible to let the sunlight in.

Mirror and vanity lighting

In the bathroom your vanity and mirror are two major focal points. You need this mirror and vanity area to be well lit and in order to do this you’ll require lights above the mirror and on both sides to ensure all shadows are filled. A big trend right now is using LED strip lights around bathroom mirrors to create seamless, contemporary looking illumination. If your mirror also doubles as a cabinet, extra strip lighting underneath the cabinet can look really effective.

Light/heater/exhaust fan

For basic task lighting, heating and to draw away steam, installing a 3 in 1 light/heater and exhaust fan ceiling unit is preferable. These units allow you to operate each individual element separately in your bathroom space. The light is great for general use at night and the heater makes getting in and out of the shower much easier in winter. Having an exhaust fan is important in any bathroom space but if you don’t have a window in your bathroom it really is a must.

The days of having a single light fixture in the bathroom are long gone. As we spend more time in our bathrooms, the use of pendant lights, strip lighting and other lighting applications are becoming increasingly popular.

To personalise your new bathroom and to create added warmth and ambience consider the above lighting ideas when it comes to your bathroom space.
