In April last year, Elon Musk’s Tesla launched the Tesla powerwall, and now, they are being delivered to homes; first stop Australia.

The Powerwall is a home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels, or when utility rates are low, and powers your home in the evening.

Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall enables you to maximize self-consumption of solar power generation.

Nick Pfitzner, a family-man living in Sydney’s Hills District, was the first to receive the Powerwall, and he is excited that he was the first in the world to receive one and have it installed.

"There's obviously an underlying financial argument for having your own battery and leveraging the panels as much as we can," he told Mashable.

In less than 8 years, Mr Pfitzner should have a solid return on his investment, with reselling his excessive power back at peak-times.

“That’s the next step,” he said, “with solar power, I can resell a little back to the grid.”

“There’s obviously an underlying argument for having your own battery and leveraging the panels s much as we can.”

A typical Powerwall system includes solar panels, an inverter for converting electricity between direct current and alternating current, a meter for measuring battery charge, and in backup applications, a secondary circuit that powers key appliances.

Ultimately, Powerwall users can store the energy generated from their solar panels during the day, and ultimately become completely independent from the electrical grid in the evenings when the power prices are substantially higher.

Australia has been targeted as a priority for Tesla, with our continuous use and reliance on solar power.
