Mother’s day is the time we celebrate mums of all kinds. Whether you’re helping your kids shower their mum with gifts or spending time with your own, here are a few different things you can do to show them you care.
Breakfast in bed
Whether it’s cereal and toast or a full breakfast with eggs, bacon and tomatoes, help your kids spoil mum by bringing her breakfast in bed.
All you’ll need is 2 slices of bread, spreadable butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar and half a teaspoon of ground sugar.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. While you prepare tea or coffee, ask the children to draw a love heart and xoxo stencil outlines on a baking sheet and help them cut these out. Spread the bread with butter on both sides and place on a baking sheet. Place the stencils on top.
In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle generously over the bread. Bake until crisp and golden brown (around 8-10 minutes). Peel off stencils and serve this ‘made-with-love’ simple but delicious dish up to mum.

Home-made spa gifts
Does your mum love beauty treatments and being spoiled with aromatic lotions? Instead of buying a tonne of products from Lush, consider making your own Green Tea and Rose Sugar Scrub to gift to her.
You’ll need half a cup of white sugar and half a cup of coconut oil, green tea bags, dried rose petals, a mixing bowl, a glass jar and rose essential oil. Combine sugar, the contents of 2-3 green tea bags and dried rose petals in a bowl. Add coconut oil to the sugar mixture and stir until it has a clumpy consistency. Pour it into a glass jar with a lid, tie a ribbon around it.

New mother hamper
You don’t have to be related to celebrate mothers on the day. If your friend has recently had a bub, this new mum hamper kit will be the perfect present for her first mother’s day celebration.
The key to this gift is personalisation — choose gifts you think your friend would want or need when she’s at her most vulnerable. She’s bound to feel exhausted with her new role as a mum, so include self-care items like scented moisturisers, face masks, a silky eye mask… Put everything in a picnic hamper basket and, most importantly, include a card. New mothers can often feel unsure and overwhelmed, so write a message of support to your friend to let her know she’s doing a good job.
