One of the biggest names in architecture, Zaha Hadid passed away in March 2016, and one of the last projects she was working on is a testament to her visionary approach – it features robot valets that will park residents’ cars for them.

The futuristic design for 520 West 28th Street in Manhattan features much of what multi award-winning Hadid was famous for, including innovative building techniques and fluid, futuristic curves.

The building will feature 40 apartments, including two US$50million penthouses inside a sculptured facade of metal and glass.article-image

In addition to the robot valet in the car park, technology is apparent in every apartment, with windows controlled by apps, energy-efficient lighting and transparent glass bathroom doors that become opaque at the flick of a switch.

Other high-end features of this incredible building include New York’s first private IMAX theatre that will show the latest movies when they’re released, a 24-hour concierge, 75m pool with a skylight and an air filtration system that will filter New York’s notoriously bad air four times before it reaches each apartment.

In the otherwise brick and concrete jungle of New York, living rooms in this luxury project overlook the innovative High Line – the ‘park in the sky’ transformed from a former elevated train line.

Set to open this June, 520 West 28th Street gives us just a glimpse of where apartment design might evolve to, so long as architects like Zaha Hadid are allowed to follow their vision.
