Stepping inside 85 Spring Street, one of Melbourne’s most luxurious apartment developments, is a pleasure reserved for very few. Designed by world-renowned architecture firm Bates Smart, these limited 138 residences have been crafted to exude excellence in every detail.

article-imageThe flow of space within each unit is carefully considered. The architraves shaped by honed stone reveal an interpretation of a Victorian-era arch. The glazed floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap around the building slide open, connecting the Juliette balcony to the living area and bringing the outside in.

Diverting from a traditional building structure, 85 Spring Street apartments have been expertly engineered to sit over the entrance of the building. As such, the view from each apartment goes beyond the streetscape entirely, directed instead to the never-to-be-built-out views of the neighbouring Treasury and Fitzroy Gardens.

Sourced from only the finest craftsmen, the materials used throughout the building transform the apartment into a complete work of art. With the resident in mind, the architect has successfully designed an apartment that is as beautiful as it is functional.

Every feature of the apartment that the resident will enjoy is unique to the building. The lighting and tapware fixtures are custom-designed and electroplated with an exclusive colour. The joinery handles throughout cleverly mimic the twists in the external steel frame of the building, while the basin and benches in the kitchen and bathrooms follow the chamfering on the façade.

In the kitchen, the cantilevered Nordic marble benchtop references the contemporary geometry of the building. A rare material in Australia, the marble carries a higher density than the commercial Carrara found in most developments and has been carefully treated to deliver a velvety texture and a timeless finish.

No luxury apartment is complete without a scullery (or butler’s kitchen). The space is perfectly measured to keep everything within eyeshot and arm’s reach, and perfectly designed for economical storage.Retiring to the master bedroom, you won’t find a walk-in robe – an old notion of luxury. Instead, the built-in wardrobes allow for generous floorspace and minimalism. The cabinetry itself has been commissioned to standard European heights of 1.9m with thoughtful considerations for longer garments, built-in shoe racks and varied drawer heights. The robes are finished with hidden lighting that automatically illuminates when the doors open – a final touch that feels instantly indulgent.

article-imageThe bedheads are also made specially to act as a little study or vanity table, positioned in a way that ensures that every resident wakes up to the beautiful unblocked views that surround the building.

The bathrooms, like the kitchen, are works of art in themselves, with a handful of the ensuites boasting a marble, stand-alone bathtub and plenty of storage space on either side of the double marble sinks. The atmospheric lights glow with opulence, creating an ambience reminiscent of a luxury 5-star hotel.

These minute architectural details are together what elevate 85 Spring Street apartments to deliver an experience above and beyond the height of luxury living.
