‘Chanel House’ smashes reserve

Chanel boutiques across the world have an air of sophistication, elegance and prestige.

So it’s little surprise a house in Melbourne’s leafy suburb of Malvern, modelled on Melbourne’s Chanel store, has had buyers falling over themselves to claim it as their own.

Dubbed the ‘Chanel House,’ one lucky buyer out-bid four other active bidders at an auction on Saturday, eventually securing the beautiful four bedroom home at 3 Plant Street for $3.45 million.

A joint-project between the founder of Ravida Homes, Don Ravida, and the company’s business development manager, David Scott, the house was purchased for $1.35 million two years ago.

But with the fashionable upgrade fit for Coco Chanel herself, which saw the facade paint-matched to the exact colour of the Flinders Lane Chanel boutique, and identical black-rimmed windows fitted, the reserve was smashed by a huge $450,000.

All that was missing was a black-quilted Chanel No.5 handbag hanging from the arm of a mannequin in the window.

The Chanel House has custom-designed interiors from Samantha Eades of Eades & Bergman, and contained luxury finishes throughout including Herringbone oak floors and solid marble bench tops.

So if you missed out on a purchasing a fashion-forward piece of Melbourne’s real-estate, perhaps this is an indication that a market exists for catwalk-ready homes, and developers everywhere should take note.
