As electric vehicle sales in Australia continue to boom, property developers around the country have designed their brand-new apartment projects with EV charger provisions. In this article, we talked to three developers about how they have done precisely that with their developments, backing Australia’s sustainability movement.

According to the Australian Automobile Association, a total of 87,217 electric vehicles (EVs) were sold across the country in 2023 alone. This figure is more than double that of 2022, where 33,140 EVs were purchased.

With more and more Australians turning to EVs as their preferred mode of transport, New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland have set targets for EVs to reach 50% of new car sales by 2030 and 100% by 2035. This, along with the federal government committing to cutting emissions by 43% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050.

These forward-thinking approaches necessitate EV charger provisions in new homes. For those looking at off-the-plan apartments, you need not worry, as developers have designed their latest developments to cater to this sustainability movement. Let’s take a look at three of them.

Internationally recognised developer OSK Property’s Southbank apartment development, BLVD at Melbourne Square, has been designed with future-proof living and well-being as front of mind. Having already seen demand from residents in Stage 1 of Melbourne Square and responded by retrofitting EV charging facilities, the project team has made sure to include this from the start in the design of BLVD. EV charging provisions are available for its residents, in addition to the latest technology alongside natural and sociable spaces.

“BLVD is one of the first residential projects in Australia registered to pursue WELL Certification,” said Ivy Chen, Sales and Marketing Director at OSK Property Australia.

“As well as being a gas-free, carbon-neutral operation-enabled building with electric vehicle charging facilities, BLVD will offer its residents fresh air filtration in all shared, communal spaces.

“Within residents’ own apartments, customised, curved double-glazed windows and insulated walls and ceilings will provide thermal and acoustic comfort in addition to carefully chosen premium energy-efficient appliances.”

Located on the fringe of Melbourne’s famous Arts Precinct, surrounded by 3,745 sqm of lush green parkland, Melbourne Square is already an established residential community. The precinct’s full-size Woolworths supermarket on its ground floor further contributes to general well-being through a local neighbourhood feel and easily accessible, healthy food.

Buyers have loved this residential collection, offering one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, with one-bedders priced from $541k.

“We have now sold 50% of the apartments at BLVD in under a year,” Ivy revealed to AD.

“We put this largely down to buyers seeing the quality of what we have achieved already at Melbourne Square.

“Construction is planned to start in Q2 of this year and be completed in late 2027.”

Catering to the EV boom, electric car charging facilities will be provided and fitted in the common area car parking bay.

Further factoring sustainability into the project’s overall design philosophy, Eden will retain two 75-year-old fig trees that frame the building, giving it a unique and unparalleled tranquillity and calm.

“Eden Garden Residences is now 30% sold with a fantastic enquiry rate,” Graeme told AD.

“Completion is slated for mid-2025.”
