Hawthorn is one of those classic, timeless Melbourne suburbs people aspire to live in.

Just a short drive from the city’s heart, it’s full of heritage mansions intermingled with contemporary properties, creating a highly sought-after postcode.

But now, with the emergence of luxury apartment developments, entering the Hawthorn market is possible.

A range of buyers, including first homebuyers, can call the grandeur of Hawthorn home, an unthinkable premise not too long ago.

Take for example a contemporary, eye-catching new development in Lynch Street called ‘Longhouse,’ which comes with the option of one, two and three bedroom apartments, spread over three levels.

On the forth storey, residents have the option to sit back and watch the sun set over the CBD from the privacy of a landscaped garden terrace.

“Apartments make sense very quickly in expensive suburbs where housing stock is incredibly difficult to buy,” explains CBRE’s Managing Director, Andrew Leoncelli.

Every detail has been considered and catered for, and Mr Leoncelli says that’s what sets this project apart.

“All bedrooms have natural light and ventilation,” he says.

“Most of the two bedroom apartments have a living area separating them, creating the kind of apartment stock people really love.”

With Carr Design Group in charge of the interiors, he says to expect only the finest features to be sprinkled throughout.

From the ‘Asko’ appliances in the kitchen, to the premium European engineered oak floors included in each apartment, to the stone benchtops and splashbacks, each element works together to create a contemporary, yet homely, environment.

But it’s Longhouse’s façade tipped to have people talking.

Jam Architects’ had the idea to create a building that changes and transforms as you walk down the street.

They’ll use framed cantilever structures of all different colours, materials and proportions, which will make the structure look like a series of parts, rather than one block building dominating the streetscape.

Vertical gardens will run up segments of the exterior, and a glazed see-through wall, will allow outsiders to observe a state-of-the-art car stacker system inside the apartment complex; these differing textures helping to create a truly modern and groundbreaking masterpiece.

“To get planning approval, we couldn’t construct a building with just one look and feel, it would have been too much for the street. So this was a great challenge for Jam Architects to take up, and they’ve done a fantastic job,” Mr Leoncelli says.

“We’ve got all of these different elements, timber, concrete, vertical walls, combining to make the facade very interesting and different. But with that being said, it’s not a Hodge-podge of styles, there is a real elegance and contemporary style that keeps it together.”

As for the location, well there is a reason why Hawthorn is a premium postcode.

Just four stops from the CBD on a train, or a quick car trip, Hawthorn also boasts a thriving café and restaurant culture, which Longhouse conveniently sits within.

Hawthorn Oval, the Central Gardens and the Aquatic and Leisure Centre are all within walking distance, positioning you at the centre of an active community filled with the amenities that make a suburb feel like home.

“Longhouse ticks all of the fundamentals of what makes a really great apartment development in one of the best locations in Melbourne and with an incredibly low price point,” Mr Leoncelli concludes.
