In Melbourne’s inner-east, new residential development Lt Hardiman Lofts is making a name for itself.

Developer Naser Group acquired the site of an old brick warehouse on Macaulay Road in Kensington, and ever since the first meeting with forward-thinking Pitch Architecture + Development, talk has been focused on how to retain the industrial façade.

“We’ve tried to celebrate that proud Kensington industrial history, the location, and the lifestyle advantages with an architectural design that respects and reflects the suburb,” says Bo Chu, Design Director from Pitch Architecture.

“At the same time, Lt Hardiman Lofts doesn’t have the feeling of an old building. Balancing heritage and modern design principles is always a challenge, but with this project, we truly embraced the best of both worlds combining the classic charm of old-world architecture with the luxury and convenience of new world function.”

The lower form of the building has been crafted using brick and the primary façade, covered with fragrant jasmine creepers, is formed by arched brickwork motifs. Through the arched entryways, the beautifully landscaped plantings of the atrium can be seen, blending nature with the built environment seamlessly.

“The combination of warehouse loft, apartment and townhouse product offers the sort of choice and space that will attract owner-occupiers,” Chu says. “For a long time, the market has been geared towards investors, but with owner-occupiers more actively involved now, it’s refreshing to use space and ceiling height in a more generous way. When you respect design, it all adds up to better quality architecture, instead of creating a cluster of shoe-box apartments.”

Consistent throughout all the residences, the higher-than-average ceilings create a sense of volume and dimension rarely found in other modern projects. The townhouses also feature iconic arches which only add to this sense of space, while the lofts include generous rooftop terraces with uninterrupted views to the CBD.

Lt Hardiman Lofts lies just across from the Moonee Ponds Reserve, which has beautiful outlooks over the sparkling water. Here, locals can be found taking afternoon walks or else laying a blanket on the grass to enjoy a waterside picnic.

Macaulay Road is also close by and plays host to a mix of multicultural restaurants. From Thai to Italian, and Mexican to Malaysian, there’s something to satisfy everyone. Meanwhile, favourite local watering holes such as the Hardiman Hotel serve up classic pub fare in a modern yet comfortable setting.

It’s a short drive to Highpoint Shopping Centre, where shoppers can choose from over 500 retail outlets and services. Whether in the mood to browse department stores like David Jones or Myer, or search the sales racks at boutique independent designers, Highpoint does not disappoint.

At Lt Hardiman Lofts, the CBD is only 4km away and is easily accessible via the nearby Macaulay Station. Alternately, the Citylink offers a quick commute.
