It’s not difficult to see why Melbourne’s inner-west is booming.

Located less than 20 minutes from the CBD, it has a thriving café and foodie culture, train stations dotted in every suburb, and stunning views of the city skyline from a number of points along the bay.

That’s not to mention Newport and neighbouring Williamstown’s rich maritime past, with both suburbs steeped in the history of the founding of Melbourne as a capital city.

In many ways, the inner-west is Melbourne’s last remaining secret pocket.

Locals know how good they’ve got it, they’re just waiting for everyone on “the other side of the bridge” to catch on and realise.

But, then again, perhaps the secret is finally well and truly out, with 85% of a new development in Newport now sold.

“The Mill” sits on the border of Williamstown and Newport, opposite a leafy park.

As a reference to the historic Newport Timber Company, timber is heavily used throughout the design of the exterior and the interiors.

Buyers have the option of 39 one, two and three bedroom apartments and townhouses, appealing to a wide range of people, mostly owner-occupiers.

“The development is aimed at first home buyers, as well as second time buyers, downsizers and local area investors,” says Nic Cuni, Director at CBRE Residential Projects.

He says the prime location has been a major drawcard.

“It’s 800 metres from Newport train station, a short stroll to The Strand, 2 kilometres from Williamstown Beach. While a range of coffee shops and restaurants are also close by.”

For those who like the outdoors, there are plenty of walking and cycling paths connecting through to either Williamstown or right up to the hip and happening Yarraville and Footscray.

With award-winning architects Kavellaris Urban Design and Plus Interior Design on board, the result is a polished and sophisticated development.

Each apartment and townhouse is unique, with a variation of floorplans.

While buyers also have the choice of two different colour schemes – light or dark - to give each dwelling its own personalised touch.

Expansive windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the living area and bedrooms, while only the finest finishes have been used in the contemporary kitchen.

Think stone benchtops and timber floorboards, which help create a modern and sophisticated look.
