No.71 Station St is a first for the inner-northern suburb of Fairfield. Inspired by elements of industry and sophistication found in the surrounding neighbourhood, the project offers a balance of contemporary, considered design.

Developed by Osten in collaboration with Cheah Saw Architecture, this intimate series of refined, individual yet connected dwellings presents a unique opportunity to enjoy a village lifestyle in proximity to Melbourne’s CBD.

“We believe architecture has a significant influence on wellbeing through the shaping of our experience in a place,” says Eugene Cheah, partner of Cheah Saw Architecture. “We look for novel moments in every project to create experiences which people can engage with.”

At No.71 Station St, the team has encouraged a sense of community by creating a street entrance, which consists of a landscaped pedestrian laneway ending in a leafy courtyard. An open stair overlooking this courtyard connects the lobbies, with the purpose of acting as the main thoroughfare where neighbours can connect with each other.

“To create a residential development in the rich diversity of Fairfield’s urban village, we sought to condense, curate and unite thirteen distinct and individual residences,” Eugene says. “Each is flexible, and accommodates a range of evolving needs and lifestyles — the spaces are designed to evolve with the lives of the occupants.”

The largest residences are located on the ground floor. Opening out into spacious, private outdoor gardens, this is the address for those who are looking to move out of large family homes. Stroll down the pedestrian lane and past a landscaped garden and enter the home without using any lifts or stairs.

Double-storey apartments on the upper levels have been deliberately crafted to emulate townhouse living. With bedrooms located on the upper level, above the dining and living spaces, residents achieve quiet privacy.

“Each home features a palette of robust materials which are tactile and domestic while maintaining a dialogue with the character of the neighbourhood,” Eugene explains. “We have bluestone flowing from the outdoor pedestrian path right through to the front door of each residence.”

“In the apartments, we have crafted joinery and interior surfaces that are warm and inviting to celebrate the places that you come into close contact with on a day-to-day basis.”

Located adjacent to the Fairfield train station and commercial hub, No.71 Station St residents can experience a well-balanced, connected and convenient lifestyle.
