Rothelowman has been named Consultancy of the Year by UDIA in what has been the most successful 12 months in the firm’s 23-year history. Expanding into the NSW and ACT markets, 2014 has seen Rothelowman, on average, commissioned to commence a new project every second day.

Rounding out this momentous year, Rothelowman has collected a total of four UDIA awards including Best Urban Renewal Project, Best Environmentally Sustainable Development and a Commendation for Medium Density Development.

“These awards symbolise the hard work and dedication of our team and our clients; they are a testament to the calibre of projects we are able to produce together,” said Rothelowman Principal Kim Lowman.

Winning the Award for Excellence in the Urban Renewal category, the firm’s adaptive reuse of Tip Top continued to command attention as well. In collaboration with Little Projects, Rothelowman transformed 1.2 hectares of commercial land into a thriving community in inner city Melbourne.

“As a local landmark steeped in history, the Tip Top bakery site presented a unique set of challenges and opportunities,” Lowman said, “Bringing together elements of master planning, urban design, architecture and interior design we were able to address these inherent complexities by implementing a fully integrated services model”.

The result is a $215 million pioneering project that successfully balances the contemporary needs of new residents with a healthy respect for its heritage. This considered approach was also recognised by the Australian Property Institute with the prestigious Heritage Property Award; however, it is the approval of locals that has been the most rewarding according to Lowman.

The UDIA also acknowledged Rothelowman’s boutique apartment project Lex with a commendation for Medium Density Development. Developed by Kokoda, the eight luxury South Yarra residences were built on a challenging trapezoid site with strict planning restrictions protecting the area’s heritage and character.

“Rothelowman delivered a striking, sculptural facade with a beautifully understated urban form. This elegant design response resolved the complex challenge of delivering abundant natural light to all apartments while maintaining view lines to the river and the city skyline,” said UDIA Victoria.

Further north, Green Quarter took top honours for its eco-friendly design and landed UDIA QLD’s coveted Environmentally Sustainable Development award. Designed by Rothelowman the project features 22 highly energy efficient terrace homes.

Australand Queensland Residential General Manager Cameron Leggatt said the award recognised the careful planning and exemplary design of the eco-inspired project.

With a team of over 120 eager professionals, Rothelowman’s national presence continues to strengthen. For them, 2015 will see their extensive experience in mixed-use and residential design built upon as the firm targets projects in the commercial and hotel sector.
