There’s a lot to be said for city living. Melbourne’s best restaurants, cafes and stores are at your fingertips. Public transport options are plentiful. And the culture is eclectic.

But while it seems to tick all of the right boxes, sometimes at the end of a long day, it’s nice to retire in the leafy suburbs for some peace and quiet.

Well, there is a secluded, sometimes overlooked, pocket in inner city Melbourne that can give you the best of both worlds.

Yes, such a place does indeed exist. And it’s booming.

“West Melbourne is one of the last remaining city fringe suburbs that is undergoing a radical transformation,” says Johnson Tran, Founder and Managing Director of Nicson Property Group.

“Flagstaff Gardens and Queen Victoria Market are a short walk away. There are excellent cafes, bars and restaurants around every corner, and the CBD is right on your doorstep.”

And with Nicson’s sleek new development, West Village, set to start construction in mid-2016, those looking to be amongst the action can now call West Melbourne home.

West Village is located on a beautiful tree-lined street, offering residents a unique suburban feel right in the heart of the city,” Mr Tran says.

The boutique development will have a mixture of 19 one and two bedroom apartments, as well as two ground flood retail spaces.

They’ve been designed to seamlessly integrate the outdoors, with floor-to-ceiling windows connecting the terrace with the combined living, dining and kitchen area.

The floor plan of each individual apartment has been meticulously planned with architects, and created to maximise the amount of useable living space. The open-plan design minimises wasted circulation areas while providing each residence with maximum exposure to natural light,” Mr Tran says.

With such a heavy focus on the outdoors, there is also a rooftop garden to sit back and soak up West Melbourne’s buzzing atmosphere.

While the neutral colour palette of white, beige and grey adopted throughout the interiors of the development fits in with the earthy theme.

The idea for the bathroom was to create a tranquil, yet practical space that invites plenty of natural light to fill the area.

So far, Mr Tran says the majority of buyers have been owner-occupiers.

“Purchasers are attracted by the close proximity to the CBD, transport and abundance of surrounding amenities,” he says.
